CHAMBER OF FORGIVENESS (The Inner Temple Oracle)
✨I trust that forgiveness facilitates my growth, healing, and forward momentum.✨
Forgiveness is a tricky thing. I pulled this card today and big a deep breathe. Do I forgive the person who abused me as a child? Do I forgive the people that took advantage of me when I couldn't speak up for myself as I grew older? Do I forgive myself for all the ways that I sabotaged and hurt myself in the past? How about forgiving the people that were supposed to protect me... when they didn't? Sometimes I feel like if I forgive then it means that it didn't matter... like I'm past it now. Or I feel like forgiveness is a free pass for things that traumatized me and changed my life trajectory. I feel now, 10 years sober and a little clearer, that forgiveness is a journey. It's a process. It's not linear... and it is not for the people who hurt me. It's for me and it's for my future self.
When the heart hurts it wants to shut down, hardened, and close itself off from the world. This is a normal reaction to the ache that comes with being human. This is a card of deep heart healing and compassion... for yourself and for others too. It invites us to find a way to keep our heart open through the hurt, the blame, the betrayal, the anger, and the shame. It's a gentle nudge to not shut down, or close our heart over, so that we don't harden ourselves from life. Our grief is evidence of how much we love. It's impossible to live with an open heart and not experience hurt or grief.
Forgiveness has a mysterious timing and you cannot rush it. It is always your choice and not something that should be forced upon you. There often comes a day, when after many tears have been shed and candles lit, the heart doesn't ache like it did before. We may find a softness in our voice where there was previously sharpness and pain. This is the energy of the Chamber of Forgiveness. It's a process that's unfolding within us always. Forgive others when you are ready... or conversely... have strong boundaries if you need to. Be gentle with yourself and forgive yourself for any mistakes that you've made along the way. You are always doing the best that you could (with the knowledge and tools that you had) at that moment. You are here for a reason and you light the way for others.
